Charcoal Toothpaste Review

I have been OBSESSED with watching Instagram videos of people trying the trending Charcoal Toothpaste and knew I needed to get my hands on it and soon! After looking on the websites people were tagging in the videos, I didn’t want to pay over £10.00 for a toothpaste, especially if it didn’t work… So I shopped around. Holland and Barrett sells a very similar product for over half the price!

Ecodenta extra black whitening toothpaste with black charcoal and teavigo is only £4.49 in Holland and Barrett. A lot more affordable! The toothpaste is 93% ecological/ingredients of natural origin which is always a bonus. This is what the tube says…

“Toothpaste with black charcoal and Teavigo is designed for those who seek new things and unconventional solutions. This toothpaste effectively removes plaque and has a strong whitening and uniquely refreshing effect. It’s cutting edge ingredient – Teavigo, an active substance found in green tea – eradicates bacteria that cause caries and maintains a healthy oral microflora.”

No matter how much I brushed my teeth or what toothpaste I used, my teeth never seemed to get any whiter. I even used teeth whitening strips in the past but still no change. So I thought I’d give this a go…

It’s just like normal toothpaste, a little goes a long way. The only major difference is that it is a thick black liquid, looks super gross too!

                                                                   BEFORE

As you can see, my teeth are a shade of yellow and I HATE it! I got myself a new toothbrush in case the toothpaste dyed my brush black, but not to worry, it all washed out!

                                                                     DURING

Another factor I was worried about was the taste… I was worried that it would taste horrible! Although to my surprise, it was a lot nicer than I thought! It isn’t very minty, I can’t really explain the taste. The paste turned my whole mouth black, it looked so gross!

                                                                     DAY ONE

After just one brush, I could already see the results! There’s not a great improvement but in all fairness, I didn’t think there would be any improvements at all on day one. The aftermath was amazing, my mouth felt so fresh! Freshier than it has with any other toothpaste. The freshness lasted hours, even after eating. I was so surprised!

                                                             AFTER ONE WEEK

The difference is quite noticeable, there’s still a little ‘yellow’ tint but you can definitely see the change! Considering this toothpaste is a fair bit pricier than what I would normally pay, it was worth every penny. It’s by far the freshest toothpaste I have used, it leaves my mouth feeling minty and clean for hours! I’m definitely going back to stock up on more!

  1. Great review! I’m using charcoal toothpaste at the moment and, like you say, the results are subtle but it does work! Coconut oil (oil pulling) works equally as well and, apparently, is far less abrasive than the charcoal. I tend to alternate the two! Better than bleaching the crap out of your teeth, right?

    1. It’s so much more affordable then some teeth whitening products/services out there, I’ve only been using it a week but I think over more time the results will be more noticeable (hopefully) and ooo I haven’t heard about the coconut oil one, may have to look into it!

      1. Yes! Definitely do! Oil pulling has been around for centuries but seems to be coming back into fashion! Not only does it whiten your teeth (naturally) but it’s also great for the health of your gums!

You can tell I have too much time on my hands! Hehe. X

  2. This is pretty cool! I’m all for ways to whiten my teeth as much as possible but I never really heard much about charcoal toothpaste. Seems to be working great for you and also a plus that you say it’s very minty and fresh!!
